  1. You know I'm so in for this one. Any book with the title Heist in it and I'm all over it!

  2. Okay, my best summer vacation is staying home because I live where most people come for vacation! Why leave?

  3. The best summer vacation was when I got to see A Perfect Circle at Red Rock Amphitheater in Colorado. I never thought that I would actually get to see them live since they 'broke up'. This was the best setting ever. If you ever get the chance to see a concert at Red Rock, do it!!

  4. The best summer vacation I had was the summer after my first year of college. I spent the summer on a kibbutz in Israel and loved it so much I stayed for another 6 years!

  5. My best summer vacation was when I was 23 and I went to Disney World with some really good friends of my family and their triplet boys who were 17 at the time. It was so much fun! My worst summer vacation was a trip to Chincoteague Island. I went with my parents and it was miserable.

  9. What an interesting mix of destinations here! Love it! @molly -- isn't Chnicotague where they have (or had) those wild horses? That was my dream destination when I was little! (based on nothing more than dreamy covers of horse books!) @Jenny -- wow, the Great Wall -- I'm dying to go there!

  10. My best summer vacation was flying out to Maryland from California to visit some old friends back when I was still in high school. We spent our time at their families lakefront home, and took a mini trip to Atlantic City where we spent the evenings eating saltwater taffy and walking the boardwalk!

My worst summer vacation was when the bookstore I had worked at for 4 years was closing down. It was the best job I had ever had, and I made so many amazing friends while working there. It still breaks my heart to see it gone :(

  11. The best vacation was actually in September one year and it was to Disneyland. It was the first time I'd rode on a plane, ridden in a limo, and of course, my first time at Disneyland.
The worst was definitely the road trip my family starting on the very last day of school my Sophomore year. I'd only been dating my boyfriend (now husband) for two weeks before the TWO WEEK LONG road trip so that was torture. Mix in a whole bunch of boring landmarks, desolate, technology-starved chunks of the country, and unreliable AC and you've got the mix for one terrible vacation. Oh yeah, did I mention there were five of us in one vehicle?

  12. @TheLostLola - I used to work at a bookstore for a summer job too, and it was so fun I thought of it as vacation. Always sad when a bookstore closes, esp. when you worked there. :(

@Jasmine -- Your road trip sounds like an interesting premise for a novel! (With a happy ending, I presume, since the guy left behind is now your husband!)

Thanks for sharing your vacation experiences everyone; so fun to read these as we stand on the brink of summer!

  14. My best holiday was when I went to Bunbury with my family as it was so relaxing and oh so fun :) Plus, since Margaret River is only an hour's drive away from where we were, we visited The Berry farm and ate individual homemade berry pie's and scones topped with freshly made, heavenly, sweet jam and cream. YUM!

My worst holiday experience was when we drove to Monkey Mia as I had terrible car sickness which meant we had to keep pulling over every half hour or so and it's a 13 hour drive! What made it even worse was one of the times I went to get out because I was in such a rush I stepped out of the car without any shoes on. Might sound harmless but as soon as I stepped out of the car my foot landed on a doublegee. OUCH. (To bring you up to speed, a doublegee is like a prickle but way, way worse. Even after the holiday was over it hurt for another 2 weeks.)

  15. My best vacation was when my family and I went to upstate New York. It was so quiet and peaceful for a change that let us relax to the fullest.

The worst trip was probably to China to visit family. It was for 2 months and was so long and exhausting. Not to mention, we had to give presents to everyone because everyone requested them, making luggage ridiculously heavy and extraneous.

  16. My best summer vacation was my extravegant 6-week trip to Australia, HK and Cambodia. It was the trip of my life, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The worst summer vacation would be the one that I first taught summer school - no air conditioning, students who didn't want to be there and an endless summer… Oh, and then my car broke down and I had to lease a new one, a full year before I had planned. So much for my extra money!
